Ron, it not fresh air.....it's turbulence.....look at a 1960 and see the nice 
large hoses with gentle corners?  That was lost on later systems....why 2 
individuals  are so popular...

Warren was looking at performance.....on a stocker 164 with 3.89's, it 
allowed me to get as high as 33mpg!..that's over 400 miles on a tank!

On my 69 with 3.27's.....it added 4mpg  and lets the car accelerate briskly 
at speeds over 3000rpm...
