How about this...

Most of the LED's I found online were straight up - so the lights shot directly up and not out towards oncoming traffic.  This is a "Right Angle" LED and supposedly (YMMV) replaces the 1157...

It's a right hand led cluster...drops into the socket...there's even a load resistor available to make it flash correctly.

Then of course, there's the LED backup light!
