Let this be a LESSON  to everyone......

1  Always BACKUP     MAKE A COPY of your PERSONAL  file[s]  before   
Upgrading / doing any changes to your Computor!

2  Check to see if the "Upgrade"  automatically  makes "backups" prior to 
loading [ sign of "quality" ]

3   SUPPORT??   what does it matter if you're not having any problems that 
cannot be worked with / around?  I still run Windows 98SE  on 2 PC's.....they 
work just fine!....software doesn't wear out!..and it's been over a YEAR since 
Microsoft quit "supporting"

Sadly,  this person just learned all this....the hard way.....had they done 
#1...all they'd need to do is re-install the older version and THEIR  file [s] 
of work.....and they could  continue!
