Bob,
It was my understanding that the ducting wasn't to help with the cooling, but
to keep the copious amounts of dust, dirt & grit from entering the engine
compartment, components (generator and such) and the engine via the air cleaner...
Of course I could be mistaken...
It DOES get warm in there, though....
