i have 2 kits for harness work. both are very old. one is a belden kit i
bet you can still buy. the tool in that kit is part number 7500 and works well.
i have an old kit of packard terminals part number 4004. most os the
connectors are for power windows and locks on older gm , but a few were the single
, dual , and other configurations used on gauges and lights . i buy
replacement terminals for the most used housings at napa. part numbers are 725145 and
725147 .i usually solder them after crimping. i have other tools made for
electronic work that take the connectors out of the housings ..but a small
flat blade driver or ground down piece of an old antenna works well for this. i
remake my harnesses by stretching them out between a vise and other support
(screw in wall or such) to repair or add wires for my added options , such
as ham radio power supply , or cruise control etc. plus a add a vacuum line
for the gauge using air shock tubing. then i retape the whole mess and hope
for a decent fit. that's why i have always saved harness parts from junk
cars. some wires are reuseable , along with the unique connector housings. save
them main body harnesses , you can make many nice engine harnesses from them.
i have pictures of the kits i use. i may be able to post them at the
webpicture site.
regards, tim colson
