Bob, the one you describe was on the 38 Chev, at least some models . One of
my relatives had one , years back. Yes, when you are 94 yrs old, you can
recall a lot. That was the only year any production vehicle ever had one, as
far as I know. I had  a 'palm grip' knob on one of my cars back then, and
liked it. After power steering came in, they were not really needed, IMO.
