If the octane is sufficient, the fuel mixture is ok after the chokes come  
off, and the ignition is ok, then is the engine getting all the cooling it is  
supposed to?  Is it all sealed up on top so the only source of cooling air  
comes from the louvers behind the read window?  Is there a lost shop rag on  one 
bank of cylinders?  Is the oil cooler clear of debris?  Corvairs  shouldn't 
run poorly when they warm up--if they do (ping, lose power  etc.) then something 
isn't optimal.
