With the car out of gear, rotate a rear wheel. If the other wheel does 
not rotate or rotates backwards (opposite from the wheel you're turning 
by hand), then the diff is likely open. If the other wheel turns in the 
same direction, it's likely a posi (or a busted diff!) ;-)
