Maybe in todays market...but in the 70's - 90's    the DEALERS were doing it 
as well...especially on XJ-6's...bare block was $4800  and went south often!

Many XJ-12's were purchased....converted and the v-12 sold to recoup some 
$$$....

Jag engines until they became Fords..were way too  maintenance  needy...
