A while back Tim V. had a problem on his coupe of the clutch not wanting to disengage. I have the same problem. We also discovered the problem on my car.
I was over at Terry Kalp's shop watching some of the guys working on their cars and BS'ing. When It came time for me to head home I jumped in the car fired her up, pulled into reverse and the car started moving backwards with the clutch fully depressed. I pulled it out of gear and tried putting it into another and it would not go in at all. I shut the car off and the trouble shooting began. We rolled the car into Terry's shop and started checking cables. Everything seemed to be moving in it's proper order. The cable was a little loose so I tightened it up hoping that it would start working again as in Tim's case. That didn't work. We were thinking maybe the clutch disc had partly failed leaving portions of friction material stacked.
Terry offered to let my car reside in his garage for the evening and he loaned me his 62 sedan to head home in (man is that a sweet ride).
Today we pulled the engine in almost a record time while fighting the transmission input shaft....maybe a galled pilot bushing. Nope, upon further teardown one of the flywheel bolts had backed out and was pushing on the clutch disc.
New Clutch disc and New flywheel bolts will be ordered in the morning.
