 This is what I found at the area where the lower shock absorber 
bracket is welded to the trailing arm.

  Smitty says :  Hmmm, I looked all over my Earlies and couldn't find any failure prone areas.  Must be the manufacturer got a little slipshod after 64.
  OBTW, did you ever see a 4 dr coffin?  Maybe that's why you never saw one flip over.
