when putting a used cam in try to get one that you know has the correct  
lifter lobe relationship.  when i tear down an engine for parts or to work  on i 
keep the lifters with the same lobe using blocks of wood drilled to set  
lifters and cam on.
on stuck rings i have fixed more than one by stalling the warm engine with  
JB blaster down the carbs then leaving it a few hours.  most of the time it  
will be fixed.  did this to some marine v8's once and the repair was  instant. 
putting about a half a spray can in the oil will usually fix noisey  lifters 
also.
