All good points, except that I would be surprised if a refrigerator 
compressor could "pull" a deep enough vacuum to remove nearly all the air from an A/C system.

It will pull an indicated 30 inches in about 30 seconds.  I have hand valves fitted to hold what the compressor draws.  As a side note the only lube it has ever received is what gets into it as a function of drawing down to reclaim freon from systems.    So There   gg
