If it "runs great" but will only go 50 mph I would check your accelerator
linkage to be sure your carburetors are wide open when the accelerator is fully
depressed. If not then adjust the cable linkage ONLY. If your engine runs
well don't touch the carbs themselves yet. If you do have wide open throttle
with the accelerator fully depressed, and your engine runs well it may literally
be running out of gas because of a blocked pickup sock in the tank, blocked
fuel filters or a weak fuel pump. All of the above assumes the engine is
running in optimal tune.
My '64 Brier with 95 HP and a 4 spd will cruise at 85. Is the wheel
alignment correct? Are brakes dragging? Is there a 50 mph headwind? Best of luck
with it--at least you can drive it now! Let us know how your repairs are going.
