I went yesterday... big event as always, but with some changes this year.
Carlisle is apparently trying to get into the Barrett-Jackson "auction
frenzy" and has instituted a live auction tonight and tomorrow night.
Folks in the car corral were complaining that the corral prices were way
up (like $250?) in order to motivate people into the auction... so the
corral was not quite as full as I've seen it in past years.
Notable Corvair stuff:
Cotrofeld was there in the usual place (with their Corvair 180 display
engine) but an ever decreasing amount of stuff actually for sale. The
guy that has a lot of NOS stuff (and always a Corvair section) had moved
from his normal spot south of the grandstand to the lower North field
(out by the highway, behind and below the car corral). Nothing new there
either.
The slightly rusty/crusty late sedan was also in its usual place, still
asking $1800. Someone wanting a late sedan could do much worse...
No Corvair V8's in the corral this show (2 last fall), but a stunning
'62 convertible was. Asking price $12,500.
I got real excited when I saw a set of virtually new 16x7 (genuine)
Minilites for $550... but that fell to sudden disappointment when the
bolt pattern turned out to be 5 on 5" (what in the world would these be
made to fit?? I can't think of anything with sporting aspirations with
a 5 on 5 pattern) but I did see a set of older Panasports in a 13x6
with a 4 on 4.5" pattern (and a 4" backspace) for $220 (one of the tool
vendors had them) but I skipped because I didn't really have anything to
put them on (and frankly I didn't want to have to carry them out!)
I only went yesterday because I have family commitments on Saturday...
hope the weather holds out for you... it was hot, hot, hot yesterday...
