Ryan-
The stuff that holds in the rear window on your car is not really a gasket.
It is a rope-like substance that is the diameter of your little finger. The
original install has the rope laid in the opening and then the glass is
dropped down onto it. Sometimes it is recommended to add some butyl rubber
compound from a caulking type tube after the glass is set in. I've never
added that. Both of these products are made by 3M and are available in auto
parts and body supply stores. DO NOT USE silicone! It bonds with the glass
(which is made of silicone) and is impossible to completely remove if you
spill some on the glass. Do the job the way the factory did it. You won't be
sorry.
