In layman's terms both :-) There are at least two paints which give
you this effect. Dupont Chromalussion and House of Kolors Kamelon
Kolors. The paint itself is different as well as needing to be
applied differently. The way it was explained to me the Dupont
product, which I just had applied to my 66, has a base which is put
down which has most of the base color in it. Then a coat of paint is
applied which contains a material which reflects and bends light in
funny ways to cause the color change, finally a clear is applied on
top of the whole thing. The basic technology has been around for some
time and is used in everything from car paint to clothes. It's very
cool but expensive, if I remember correctly enough material to do a
Corvair runs about $4,000! Hope this helps.

With regards to the Monza in ebay auction #4632407521, can anyone
explain in layman's terms how that sort of paint job is done? Is it
just a specific type of paint or is it the way that the paint is
applied?
