In 1975 when catalysts first appeared, motorists were warned not to park 
over dry grass with a hot catalyst. Since then most catalysts have become 
much smaller and are usually covered by a heat shield to keep this from 
happening.

I would suspect that grass ignites somewhere around the same place as 
paper, 451F according to Ray and the catalytic process does not start until 
the temperature reaches 500-600F.
