<VV> LM front fender replacement

Anyone out there ever replace a complete left front fender on a late model Corvair?  I am considering this and am looking for advice.

Questions include:
Did you replace the inner piller where the door hinge plates are of just separate and weld where the seem is just outboard of the hinge plates?

Would it be easier to replace the inner fender to the pinchweld seam in the trunk?

Where were the best places to separate and reweld?
