The Atom car will likely not be imported into the US. However, it is very
likely to be produced in the US. A company in Ashland, OR is set to produce the
cars. They are working with General Motors to try and use the new Cobalt SS
powerplant (The Ecotec 4-cyl motor, with a factory Supercharger) and 5-speed,
in place of the Honda type-R motor. Honda seemed to be less than responsive
about supplying powertrains. They have an Atom with the GM powertrain
installed as a prototype. I talked with one of the company principles this
afternoon. They are taking deposits toward delivery in about 4-6 months. Cars built in
the US will be left-hand drive. Most folks are using them for track days,
but it would be a neat trick to get it "street legal" as a kit car. Then you go
out hunting for repliCobras and Z06 Corvettes! "So, bubba, you wanna to race
with me? - This thing has a Hemi - kind of!" - One of the prototypes may be
at SEMA in Las Vegas. Look for a full report after that
