That seems to be the issue with most of the current GM offerings (and we
just got through looking at quite a few). Wonderful cars in the context of
the early 90's but somewhat lacking today. When gas prices first passed
$2/gallon they should have been taking a hard look at the lineup all of
which is "large" by European standards. For that matter what ever happened
to the "27.5 mpg fleet average" ?
The Japanese and the Europeans have no problem producing sporty and
efficient small cars but there seems to be a collective psyche that says
"there is no substitute for cubic inches" as evidenced by the Oct 3, 2005
Newsweek back cover pitching a 303 HP Impala that gets an "estimated" 28
MPG on the highway (60 mph peak, 48 mph average, and a/c off ), about the
same as a ten year old Buick.
