OK! It's not the carbs themselves.....maybe idle speed adjustment.....but
not linkage...
You say;
>Are you saying that you haven't left a timinglight, dwell meter hooked up
at
>idle to see if anything changes [ timing retards as speed decays ]?
Yes have left connected. Have even set timing statically and compared to
dynamic (very close). Just discovered that dwell-tach (dated 1973) is now
less than accurate. Need to recheck rpms
*******************************************************************
What is timing? static! [ since no good steady idle ] Points or
Petronix?
Point gap = ? [ try 0.015" ] Dwell= ? [ bad meter?]
Have you left the crossshaft disconnected [both sides!]when HOT.....and plug
off the VA?
As Bob Helt said...a Vair will run / idle on one carb....
Can you adjust the idle speeds up high enough when HOT to get it to idle?
Even without a Unisyn, or other device...to basically balance.....when
HOT..with crossshaft disconnected...
Back out each idle speed screw [ choke open / fast idle cam out of the way ]
until you see the carb stop moving / screw becomes easier to unscrew..
Then turn in slowly.....from when it HITS lever....4 more turns in..........
Also bottom out Idle mix screws......back out 4 turns....
Restart.......engine should idle FAST.......if not.........let us know. If
it does.....REV engine using 1 carb at a time.....Both OK?
Shut off engine......back out EACH speed screw 1
turn.........restart.......if it idles under 800rpm.....turn in idle mix screws until engine falters, ETC
If you can get it to idle in Gear......then...only then........attach the
passengers side link.......then adjust the swivel on the drivers side to just
"slip in" the hole....
