Am getting good at shifting to N when I come up to a light and to D when
light turns green but is getting old.
After replacing all of the hoses the 110/PG has a reasonable cold idle but
even then have to be careful about shifting into gear (Is easier to push
into and out of garage when fully warmed up). Once fully warm it will not
idle for more than a few seconds before stalling.
Runs sweetly at 60-70 (suspect a 3.55 gear) and when under load but can
feel a frequent but not constant miss at light throttle cruise 25-45 mph &
coasting to a stop. PG shifting is smooth and does not jerk going into gear.
Have discovered that my 25+ year old dwell tach has lost cal (either that
or car is turning 4500 rpm at 60 mph) so all previous idle rpm and dwell
readings are now suspect (but dwell was steady).
Cleaned single tailpipe with alcohol before 60 mile round trip to meeting
(rush hour going, open roads returning) and was lightly sooty (black) on
return.
Opinion at club meeting is that 78000 miles on clock is probably accurate &
apparently condition has been there since about 2002 (car has been driven
less than 1000 miles since).
To reiterate, carbs have been rebuilt by someone talented at such & since
problem began. Everything in ignition has been replaced also since. All
rubber hoses replaced. W8AC plugs. Bakelite carb insulators lightly sanded
and sandwiched between paper gaskets. All cyl test to over 150 psi cold,
all plugs removed, and with carbs removed.
Am getting the use of a Unisyn this weekend since opinion was that the
carbs are not balanced.
Ideas welcomed,
Padgett
