According to my email conversations with Lew, you still use the existing temp gauge with his new (not NOS) thermister but he has to electrically match the gauge to the output of the new thermister. I don't know if it's an irreversible change - I doubt it. You also need to tap an existing hole in the head for 1/8 NPT. Lew says no drilling needed, just run the tap in.
I'm probably going to get Lew's thermister (because it's cheaper than a stock thermister) and I'll let the group know how it works when I get it. Now, I'm not very picky, I just want to know more or less what my engine temp is doing. So don't expect any calibration accuracy reports or anything! And NO excel files!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would anyone on this forum have any inkling whether these prices might spur
the development of a REAL reproduction? I don't know about Lew's offering,
but: (a) it seems he doesn't monitor this forum; and (b) I don't know of any
Web site on which he describes this offering (tell me if there is one - he
doesn't advertise on this site either, as far as I've noticed). Because
Lew's product involves adjustment to a gauge (or vice-versa), I'm assuming
it isn't a screw-in like the original. Or maybe for a stock gauge, no
adjustment is required - I have far more questions than I do answers. In the
meantime, I'm assuming that Lew's product wouldn't meet my definition of a
"real repro."
