Smitty says:  In his book when Smokey Unick talked about developing an
800 cfm NASCAR carb, he said he started with a 750,  cut away the parts
not wanted, and then built the carb back up with JB weld and re machined
the shape.  Of course I doubt he expected it to last any longer than just
to prove function
