HI Bill
Since so many of us buy Corvair Parts on Ebay, the topic is related to us. 

When I joined PayPal in 2002, They requested my checking account information. I didn't enjoy doing that, but it ended up being painless. They made 2 deposits into my checking account...one for .02 and one for .04. I guess just to make sure everything worked. Then I had to verify the amount of the deposits to get my account working. So I use my checking account to pay paypal invoices. That has worked just fine since 2002. I use the credit card they have on file as a "back-up funding source". 

Anyway,I understand your consternation, but PayPal seems to work quite well. It is the only online pay service I use besides CheckFree, which I use to pay 6 of my monthly bills. It also works very well.
