<VV> Weird Fuel Gauge Problem

Hi,

 

Got my 66 180 convertible on the road for its first drive since Portland and
it’s first trip of any consequence since the restoration, a 200km round trip
to the Radium car show (600 plus cars).

 

Here’s my problem. I fill the tank, gas gauge goes to full. It then goes
down to about ¾ at about the right speed and then over the space of a few
minutes after that it goes to about 1/4 tank and stays there until it really
is about ¼ full. I’ve never actually seen it drop but it does occur over a
fairly brief time span.

 

The tank was cleaned and I have a new sender unit, sock etc.

 

It’s done it a couple of times now.

 

Any ideas?

PS Wish I had had time to enter the show, along with Greg’s Spyder we would
have been the only two Corvairs!
