<VV> Starter kicks off

Hi guys.  When cold, my starter will kick off as soon as it engages the flywheel or it will just kick off altogether.  I can try it over and over for a couple minutes and it will start engaging longer and longer until it will start.  After I drive it to driving temp, it will engage fine and start right up.
Question:  Anyone else deal with this?  I only know enough to make myself dangerous sometimes...would it be the solenoid?  Can our starter be purchased at our FLAPS?  What do you think?
