<VV> Platinum tip spark plugs

Platinum plugs are used by all the auto companies because they last forever.
My 1998 Chevy pickup has 97,000 miles on it and still has the original
plugs.  Are they necessary in a Corvair?
Unlikely!  The most powerful Corvair engine on the planet, Terry Glasscock's
sand dragster, runs 9,000 RPM with 20 pounds boost and alot of nitrous oxide
and he uses conventional tip NGK spark plugs.  He changes them about once a
season.  Of course, the engine only runs full throttle for 3 seconds.
