Padg,try hard-wiring a ground wire from the points,use the screw that holds the condenser, run to good frame+engine ground--tie them all,one continuous wire,if possible, to battery neg cable,and replace the 'black wire' from the points;;;pull the rubber grommet out temporarily and run both out the notch in the housing,so the cap doesn't pinch the wire or sit crooked...did you put new points/condenser in ? if that cures it,do what Matt suggested--CLEAN the distributor,oil,varnish,corrosion..all insulaters..Tom Z
