A reminder to all that the stock Corvair ignition system was designed to run
with a 1.8 ohm ballast resistor connected to a 6 volt coil having a 1.3 ohm
pri resistance. This put about 12 volt on the coil for starting and about 6-7
volts for running (alt putting out 14.2 volts).
If you change this setup then please be sure you use the appripriate
components. For example, if you wish to elimininate the ballast res, then you need a
12 volt coil. If you use a 12 volt coil, (pri res will be closer to 3 ohms)
then the ballast res isn't wanted. Just be sure that you measure the pri res with
a good ohnmeter to be sure of which coil you have.
