<VV> Bigger Gap = Higher Voltage

I wonder whether everybody understands how this happens?  That is,  getting a 
higher voltage at the plugs by use of a spark  gap.

I'll take a stab at that...voltage continues to increase until a high  enough 
potential is reached to jump the gap...then voltage levels off, there,  
through the duration of the spark life. Hence fouled or close gap = low voltage,  
large gaps = high voltage. I would summise this all occurs within the voltage  
capacity of a given coil.Yes? No?
