I must be one of the lucky ones. I have a manual 140 hp in my 62 sedan with a PG. That car will beat anything across an intersection. Seriously. And If I really want to take off, I left foot brake and rev the engine against the brakes. When I do that, it will snap your head back. The engine is bone stock, except that I took off the secondaries, so it is running on only two carbs. This is a sample of one. Your results may be different.

A 140 four speed is definitely faster than a 140 PG. And a 180 turbo is
faster than any of them.

Hi Gary,
Regarding "A powerglide behind a 140 is fairly gutless, (my opinion)", I am
pretty sure that is far from reality. I have heard that the 140 PG was
actually the fastest accelerating Corvair even over the 180 turbos, however, I
have not checked the documented evidence.
