Sometimes persistance pays off. Received a reply to my second e-mail about
the toll-free number being no help. Now have some RapidFire specs:
---------quoted message --------------
Reach for Rapid Fire sparkplugs:

1     =     .484"
2     =     .484"
3     =     .689"
4     =     .748"
5     =     .748"
6     =     .689"
7     =     .433"
8     =     .689"
9     =     .748"
10    =     .440"
11    =     .811"
12    =     .689"
All measurements have an error quotient of +/- .009"

Caution!
No application listing for this product is for a 1969 Corvair.
We do not list heat ranges for Rapid Fire sparkplugs.

(#14 is same as #3 except for a wider gap. There is no #13.)

Of these only the #4, #5, #7, and #9 appear to be gasketed plugs. Given
that the 44F has a reach of 1/2", the #4,5 and 9 with a 3/4" reach would
require a spacer (is this feasible ?) leaving only the #7 (14mm thread,
13/16" socket but ) as a possiblility. Might need a hotter ignition as the
gap is .045.

Earlier I noted that the #7 appears to replace plugs with a heat range of
3-6 and is almost exactly the same length (gasket flat to tip of bent
electrode ) as a W8AC (I do not have a 44F to compare). See
http://padgett.ws/files/plugs.jpg (3/4 reach RN14YC is there for
comparison). Note that the tip of the electrodes for the #7 and the W8AC
are in almost exactly the same distance from the flat.

Has anyone tried the RapidFire #7 in a Corvair ? I have had very good luck
with Rapidfires in other engines.
