<VV> LM Cluster gear Anti-rattle

Seems like the first year Saginaw cluster gear had the anti-rattle springs and "gear" on the front, while GM removed it in '68. At least the one I removed didn't have one. The '66 shop manual mentions it but it is not mentioned in either the '67 or '68 manual.

My '66 Chevelle cluster (to make up a Yenko CR) transmission has it.

What is the story? Did GM delete it?
