Seems to me that there are two basic materials to use for your compressed  
air lines.
 
1) Metal - Copper, steel, iron or other type. Strong enough to hold the  
pressure but costs a bit more.
 
2) PVC pipe - Costs less than metal pipe and is easier to assemble. Experts  
say it's not good, but others have used it without any problems.
 
I don't think there's anything further that can be said to convince one  side 
to cross over to the other.
