1   that's what the TAB was for...to hold the rod after you inserted it thru 
the Door.

2   Many drop the WHOLE assy.   install the same....complete!

3  I remove rear grille.....use a thin wire over swivel 
pin....pull......insert...attach clip....

like so many other things I've done for years....may not be the best 
way.....but is easy for me STILL...ggg
