Hi,
By "original assembly drawings" do you mean the internal-to-Delco documents
that describe the inner works of the part? Too bad those are not available.

I was at Delco-Remy in the early 70s and there was a big move on to reduce
the number of part numbers. At the time there could be five or six different
part numbers for the same part resulting from slightly different finishes or
a minor bend somewhere or a slot instead of a hole or sometimes we never
found any difference at all.
Since DR (not Chevrolet) made the headlight switches, it is likely that this
is what happened. You would need to look at the original assembly drawings
to see what the difference was.
