I bought my '63 Spyder (as on my page www.mts.net/~lhonke) near Bemidji 
MN and drove it home to Winnipeg, Canada - approx 5 hrs-ish - with no 
trouble other than the ones that the car started out with  -speedo 
needle laying in the bottom of the gauge, no second gear, no tailpipe, 
no carpet. Even Customs was friendly.

My '65 Corsa vert came home disassembled... the body on a trailer from 
one place, everything else from 200 miles away. Put the suspension back 
in then flat towed it to Winnipeg (15 hrs drive).
