With all this talk of He / She / It   and the various names / reasons ......

How about everyones WORST story  of Buying a Corvair.......the Deal...the Car

My Favorite Vair, 65 Corsa /140 /4 /4.11's   gets the award in BOTH......

Neighbor had a nice 65 Corsa.....ran like SHit......I offered to help him 
out....He informed me HE  was the worlds greatest Vair mech /racer.......and I 
drove POS's  that were embarrassing to Vair People.....

OK  fine with me!  gggggg

Approx. a yr. later he knocked on my door........said he was being 
transferred to the Desert area..and would like my Baja VW  with Hadley TransVair....had 
been promoted to Supervisor and hadn't the time to Fix the Corsa,  
droppedseat.....other than that  perfect!
Wife made the deal......$1500 and His car.......$500 up front.....$1000  
after  1 month..if "trouble free"......Gave him the keys and said bye bye...
Next day he drove the Baja 150 miles to his new office.....I and the wife 
went over to retrieve the car....
Head off......Visual  showed dropped seat....Broken cylinder.........towed 
car  the 1 block home...
on the way home.....no brakes...rattles galore.....very little electrical 
worked....steering weird!
Replaced head  and found used 0.060"  barrel....Fired engine....[  don't ask 
about how the 4 carb linkage was adjusted.....just imagine a engine idling on 
oneprimary and one secondary....easy fix after bending everything back....
Flywheel so loose it scared me!  gggg  pulled engine...got FW  
welded.....also found it had a Turbo dist.!  [ traded that for good dist and welding of FW]
By the time the wife returned with the FW,  I had the Electricals working and 
and brakes  manually adjusted with  Self adjusters back in correctly...
Installed engine and went for a drive.......approx.  1 block....back on 
jacks....seems while trying to fix something?????  He loosened the Tank /Swaybar / 
Front Suspension !!!!!.......back down the hill [ 85 mile round trips]  for 
more parts....gggggg

Wed.  the car was  working great....so we detailed it.......fixed a little 
rust in the rear window post of the top....and applied Duplicolor...ggggg

Saturday am  while going to a friends home in the car....we saw Him at his 
house.......stopped to ask if all was OK with Baja.....YES!     But  he added, " 
You screwed me!"   Wife had told him the car was running on Tues. [ 1st  test 
drive].  I commenced to let him know what HAD to be done to get it 
roadworthy....and that he had said it was ONLY  a valveseat....

He didn't see any problem with that....but wanted it back......and his 
$500......  told me I'd never get another $  and since he was a State employee...try 
to take the car back! No written contract......OK!!  ggggg

So...we waited the 2 mths for the family to move.........friends in the Palm 
Springs area found the car....and house.....a few weeks later.....Indio Date 
Festival / Riverside County Fair.....everyone goes.......including US!  ggg    
When we spotted them at the fair..we went over and towed [ car was disabled ] 
the car to the middle of nearest Hwy  !     Called the Police.......since it 
was still reg'd to ME...I was notified.....payed Towing / Storage.....and had 
to call the Cops while I retrieved car......He was there....and 
furious!.......I kept my mouth shut.....but my Wife..let him know how STUPID  he was!  LOL!!

Turned out to be my favorite all time Vair..........
