Here's what to do. Run engine above idle speed. Turn on headlights. Place 
screwdriver tip against rear bearing cap. If cap is magnetized, alt is working 
Ok.

If alt is not working, remove two terminal connector from alt.
  Remove 4 terminal connector from reg. Jumper from the F terminal (on the 
alt) to the bat terminal. Run the engine at a fast idle and check for a voltage 
at the bat terminal higher than 13v. Bat voltage should be the same too.
