My '68 sat for three years when I was overseas. I had lots of problems with
fuel starvation when I put it back on the road. The tank had started to rust
and the rust particles were so fine they clogged the fuel pickup sock so that
it collapsed at a certain point. The fuel filters would clog up every few
days. I couldn't drive over 45 on the highway and if I "punched it" the engine
would die after about a second. After I replaced the tank and sender assemby
(with a new one and new sock) it ran beautifully.
