Keith,
Excellent choice on you and your daughter's part. My wife gave me a '92 S-10, two years old, small V6 with a 5-speed and with 32K on it. I had to give it up eight years later when a hit-and-run driver took the door off--with me sitting in it!!!
Then it had 140K and all I did to it was paint, fluids, brakes, battery and an alternator (the only on-road emergency I had). That little truck did anything I asked, including towing a '68 Corvair 105 miles in one trip and moving 1100 pounds of exotic hardwoods in another.
Taught my older daughter on my '68 Monza. We later had two Karmann Ghias and a Bus. I always felt more comfort in knowing she could get behind the wheel and drive anything she had to. The half hour to teach her was well worth the effort.
