<VV> Pertronics vs Points.

I had a problem with my Pertronics, which at the time seemed like it was a faulty fuel pump. My car, a 65 Corsa, would be running fine, then suddenly start surging as if it wasn't getting enough fuel. I replaced the fuel pump and the car ran fine for a few days, then suddenly would start surging and cutting out as if it was fuel starved. After replacing two fuel pumps I started checking the fuel system to see if I was getting any other blockage, but the entire system seemed fine and the pump was putting out fuel. Then I started checking the ignition system, some times I had spark, some times I didn't. I replaced the Pertronix with points and my car fired up immediately. I don't know if the Pertronix just wore out (it was a couple of years old) or if it was just faulty.

The 65 that has the Pertronics set up has a tendency to spin over several
seconds before firing off, but the one with the points set-up cranks almost
immediately. (providing carbs are primed with fuel). Is this normal for a
pertronics set-up to be slow in firing off, or have I screwed something up?
Cecil,
I have found just the opposite situation on my 65 110 and 65 140 engines.
They fire up quicker with the Pertronix systems. The 110 uses the stock coil
with the resister in place and the 140 uses a high energy coil with the full
12 volts applied. The 110 has been running for 15+ years and the 140 has
been running for 10+ years with no failures. Will never go back to points
again.
