Alan asked: <snip>Now that I have the engine and drive train out, I want to
move the car
around. I saw someone reference a 'dummy drive train' on here once upon a
time. Is
this something that must be homemade or bought? I don't see anything in
Clarks
catalog and I don't see anything in the tech guide.<unsnip>
Craig replies: A dummy drive train is nothing more than an
engine/diff/transmission of any sort that "fills the hole" while the final drivetrain is out
for repair or protection from whatever the body is being subjected to
(storage, sandblasting, painting, transport). The less that's on the "dummy" the
better. (It's lighter and easier to install).
The minimum:
Engine cases
Early or late (as required) differential with ring gear carrier, side
bearings, and adjusting sleeves (+oil if towing)
Transmission of any type with matching transmission support bracket
The maximum:
A complete, running alternative engine, transmission, and differential.
(This is what I have and use)
Check around with your local club or post on VV, I'd bet that you can have
hardware rounded up and borrowed or bought within a matter of hours.
