I believe that the brace on the bottom of the Summer/Winter door is to allow some air to flow through the oil cooler when the left damper door is shut. The damper door thermostat is located forward of the oil cooler, and while the cylinders might be cool enough for it to be closed, the oil might be hot enough to require cooling. John Ryall
