i use a screwdriver or punch heated with propane torch to poke the holes in
carpet before mounting things. it has always worked good for me. last time i
did it was putting the new carpet in the 64 greenbrier. mounting the gas pedal
plastic housing required holes through the carpet. the old (new wrong
color)carpet was missing threads from someone just using self drilling screws.a
quick warmup of a screwdriver and the holes are done nicely sealed, kinda like a
boat nylon line cut with that special blade on a soldering iron...
