Guessing about engine damage is a good way to miss the problem..BTDT!

Heads were bolted down....head gaskets weren't BURNT thru.....no 
problem....barrels out of round.....still should be some compression....20-40 psi.....even 
with collapsed piston rings....

I'd definetly check the cam gear and crank gear....

Usually an engine that gets too hot will seize on at least one 
cylinder....PLUS  was any rubber melted?
