When I first got my 67 4dr, it did this trick. I thought OH Crap! I have to
tear it apart and do the e-clip. When I crawled under the car to start the
project, I noticed that the governor was askew (sounds like texas). Further
exam showed the little tin retaining clip had separated from the governor,
so nothing was holding it in. A replacement governor was installed and 40k
later its still fine!
That little clip is held on to the governor only by a small spot weld, Im
surprised that they dont fail more often.
