Darn, it wouldn't start. Bang! Pop! Not want to run. Finally I had my
son crank it while I timed it. I couldn't even see the mark! I know I
timed it to TDC, so I compared the distributor to my Fitch. It looked
OK. I had my son crank while I turned the distributor a lot counter
clockwise. It fired and ran as smooth as I would imagine with a lovely
sound without the mufflers. I know now I missed the distributor setting
by one tooth. I'll fix it later.
Getting all the information is most of the solution.

Subject: Almost there
Ray,
I finally got the engine and transaxle into the car last weekend. I
spent hours carefully hooking up all necessary to put a fire in the
cylinders. I'm charging the battery as I type and will attempt to start
it this afternoon. No axles or mufflers yet. If I get a couple of
seconds of running out of it, I'll complete the assy.
The oil system was primed with the blower cover off, and a good flow of
oil was observed in the mains and the press gauge read 30 psi. I primed
it again before installing the distributor, so the oil lines are ready.
If it runs (sure it will, never had one that didn't yet) I'll start a
good break in period.
Getting all the information is most of the solution.
